Yamalung

Yamalung Cave and Temple is located 9.3 miles south of Samye Monastery. A road leads to the base of the mountain at 12,661 feet and then a trail leads up 845 vertical feet to the complex. The temple has been built over the entrance to a cave where Padmasambhala and his consort Yeshe Tsogyel once meditated. Now a very popular place with Tibetan pilgrims.

The white Yamalung Temple is just visible in the center of the photo

Reliefs which the monks here claim were “self manifested,” i.e. appeared in the rock of their own accord.
