Yamalung Yamalung Cave and Temple is located 9.3 miles south of Samye Monastery. A road leads to the base of the mountain at 12,661 feet and then a trail leads up 845 vertical feet to the complex. The temple has been built over the entrance to a cave where Padmasambhala and his consort Yeshe Tsogyel once meditated. Now a very popular place with Tibetan pilgrims. The white Yamalung Temple is just visible in the center of the photo |

Reliefs which the monks here claim were “self manifested,” i.e. appeared in the rock of their own accord. |
