The Pailar, or Spirit Shield, on the right - a standard feature of Mongolia monasteries, it deflects harmful spirits which may try to enter the front gate. To the left of the Spirit Shield is a smaller monument (see below). An identical structure to the right of the Spirit Shield has not survived.

In the center of the Spirit Shield is a large emblem of glazed plaster. This is apparently a remnant of the original artwork of the monastery and not a reproduction. It is only slightly damaged.

In earlier days this column included a sign which proclaimed that everyone, including visiting Bogd Gegens themselves, must dismount from their horses and walk the rest of the way to the monastery entrance.

This building, just inside the entrance and to the left, once held a "beater" which called the monks to their devotions.
